Bourgas is the fourth largest city in Bulgaria, and the second largest sea-side capital. It shares many of the coastal qualities of its big sister, Varna, but has a quainter and more relaxed feel. The town has excellent, restored road links to Sliven, Yambol, Sunny Beach, Nessebur, Primorsko, Kiten then down south to Turkey. In addition, the national and international transport links by bus, train and air are plentiful. The climate is warmer than Northern Bulgaria with a temperate sea breeze.
The beach is clean and uncrowded at one end, with watersports and bars at the other end. The Sea Gardens that run alongside the beach include park areas with water features and sculptures, cafes, bars, restaurants, trinket shops and a small zoo. There is also a seasonal fairground and concerts are held in the new amphitheatre.
The town is a mixture of historic culture and modern change. There are several museums, beautiful churches and delicately restored architecture, mingled with the fashion malls, gadget shops and hip bars. Bourgas is home to many Bulgarian chain stores like supermarket Billa, cash-and-carry Metro, Technomarket, DIY store Mr. Bricolage and Domka home stores.
